Here are seven ways to keep your human hair extensions feeling brand new:
- Gentle Washing: Use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to clean the hair. Avoid harsh chemicals, which can strip natural oils and moisture from the extensions. Also make sure to thoroughly wash in between the XO Invisible Weft where the beads are to avoid product build up. Personally I always wash my hair twice to make sure I get everything out of it, then I usually can go 2 days until I wash again. Too much washing can dry them out along with your scalp.
- Hydrate and Moisturize: Apply a deep conditioning treatment or hair mask weekly to keep the hair soft, hydrated, and silky. MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING SALON QUALITY HAIR CARE PRODUCTS WITHOUT SULFATES OR PARABENS- IT WILL BEGIN TO FEEL WAXY IF YOU USE CHEAP PRODUCTS FROM ALL OF THE ADDITIVES IN THEM AND THUS WILL BECOME MATTED.
- Limit Heat Styling: Minimize the use of heat tools like straighteners or curling irons. If you do use them, ALWAYS apply a heat protectant spray to reduce damage.
- Detangle Carefully: Apply a quality leave-in conditioner (like ColorWow) then a bit of Moroccan Oil after that before you begin to comb or brush it. Just run the products through the hair with your fingers then gently comb or detangle it, again starting from the ends and working your way up to avoid pulling on the roots.
- Air Dry Whenever Possible: Instead of blow-drying, let your extensions air dry to preserve their smooth texture and prevent heat damage. Personally, I never blow dry mine because they last so much longer without all the heat! But NEVER go to sleep with them WET, EVER! It may ruin them depending on how crazy you sleep. Sleeping with your hair in a loose braid is the best way I’ve found that keeps it soft overnight.
- Regularly Brush your extensions with a quality paddle brush throughout the day while it’s dry to maintain its silkiness, again starting at the ends of the hair and moving your way up.
- Regular Trims: Get the ends of your extensions trimmed occasionally to prevent split ends and keep them looking fresh and healthy. If you don’t, those split ends will only keep splitting farther up the hair shaft and no one wants that!
